Concerns for missing elderly man Ronald, 82, last seen by his wife at Cavendish campground

An elderly man told his wife he would return to their Victorian campsite but never made it back — and was last spotted in a strange location.

Police are now searching for 82-year-old Ronald, who was camping with his wife at Cavendish Recreational Reserve when he left in his 4WD at 4am on Thursday to travel to Stawell, about 100km away.

About five hours later, Ronald called his wife to say he would be back at the campsite soon but he never arrived.

Police were called and discovered Ronald had gone to an APCO service station in North Geelong — about 200km from Stawell — where he made an unknown purchase about 10pm on Thursday.

His family said it was unusual for Ronald to go to that location, and that his disappearance is out of character.

He was last seen in his 2004 Grey Nissan Patrol wagon with registration CRB763.

He is described as having a large build, is about 182cm tall with a grey beard and hair.

Ronald was last seen wearing a black collared top, blue shorts and black sandals.

Anyone who sights Ronald or his 4WD is urged to contact police immediately.
